The woe continues....
I really hoped that by this stage I would have reported a return to full running and a training build-up to the various events and races over the next few months. Simply not happening.
I had slowly moved towards some tentative walk/running at the start of May with a couple of successful attempts on the treadmill alternating short walk/run intervals up to two miles.
Then there was the Devon trip. As I said before, this was never planned as a running trip although I had always intended a few training runs whilst there, particularly as I was going to be on the North Devon coast.

I ventured out soon after arriving and managed to run about a mile without issue. I waited two days then ventured out again, this time alternating walking for a quarter mile with running a quarter mile. This went ok until I hit about 1.5 miles when my calf started acting up. I stopped.
On the next occasion, I did the same but lasted less than a mile before my calf failed yet again, pretty much as per the original injury back in March.
There is simply no point in bitching about it, but I cannot overstate my disappointment.

In terms of consequences, it is pretty much back to square one. Rest, massage, slow introduction to other strength work and stretching etc etc.
So, what about events? Well, everything in the near future is impacted. The Full Tilt Ultra on May 31 is cancelled of course. I will no longer be going to Andorra in June, although I might re-schedule that for September depending on how things go in the meantime.
I thought long and hard about the Race Across Scotland which is in early August. My decision has been to pay the fee (a not insignificant cost!) to defer my entry until 2026.
I figure that I will not be running at all until July at the earliest and given the time I will have been off training by then, I would never be ready for August even if everything was peachy by then. By removing all of these events, I can focus on full recovery without any time pressures, with UTAT in Morocco in October being my next major goal.
It is painful to lose months of running in some of the best weather, and longest days, of the year but there we are.
Thanks to all of those who have checked the site out in recent weeks. It is appreciated.
